Mike's Memo
I have an old iPod that I have owned for years. It has all my music on it, and as long as it is plugged into a charger, it would play. I decided that the problem was the battery needed to be replaced. So I ordered a new one and changed the battery. Now I can't get it to work at all. It's not worth anything, and all the music that is on it is also on my phone and my computer. It holds no sentimental value. It’s so old it can't connect to the internet or even support a Bluetooth device. I'm not sure why I continue to mess with it other than the fact that I want it to work. I could buy something better on Amazon for about $35.00. Since I have my phone, I don't need anything else - I just want it to work, and I want to have the sense of knowing that I am the one who fixed it.
I wonder how often I do the same thing with other parts of my life. Jesus has promised to make me a new creation, and I just want Him to fix what is broken. The problem is, there is too much broken to simply be repaired. I need God to start all over again and make something completely new. I am in the process of discovering that becoming a new creation is a lifelong process. I wish it could happen overnight, and while He could do it that way, I get in His way, and He must patiently get rid of the old in order to replace it with the new.
I'm not going to give up on that old iPod. I probably will eventually break it completely, but at least I will have tried everything I can. I am so grateful that God will never give up on me. Eventuall,y He will break me enough that He can finally begin to really use me in the way that He wants to.
