Mike's Memo

Mike’s Memo

Over the past few weeks, I have begun to walk more. I am up to three miles a day and it takes me about 50 minutes to walk those three miles. I know I won't set any records, but it is helping me to lose some weight. When I get to about 35 minutes of walking, endorphins kick in and I begin to believe that I could walk forever.

I start to feel great and forget about how hot and tired I am. When I get to about 45 minutes of walking, reality kicks in, and I realize that I might not make it back to the house. The older I get, the more difficult it is to lose the weight and stay motivated to exercise. I try to walk at least 6 days a week. My triglyceride level is high, and my doctor told me that medication alone will not take care of the problem. She assured me that if I walk 30 minutes a day, it will help. I won't see her again until September. By that time,  my triglycerides and my weight should be lower.

Every evening after supper, I walk. As it gets hotter, I will need to wait until later. Probably after dark but I still will walk.  I am doing this because I made a commitment to do it. It's not about if it is comfortable or convenient. It’s all about commitment. There are some days that I just simply do not want to leave my couch.

Those days, I have to remind myself that I made a promise and I want to stay obedient. This is true in all areas of my life. I do what is right not because I always feel like it or because it is always enjoyable.  I do the things I do because of my commitment to God. It is so easy to make a promise to God on Sunday only to break the promise by Monday because it will cost us more than we are willing to give.

I am reminded of Paul telling the church to not grow weary in doing well. My challenge to you is to keep on making and fulfilling your commitments to Christ. Don't stop even if it isn't

comfortable or convenient.

Love, Mike
