Mike's Memo
Mike’s Memo
I am so old-fashioned that I still keep a written calendar on my desk. As I look at the month of May, I see something almost every day for me or a member of my family to participate in. With Debora graduating this month and Nahomi playing basketball for an East Texas Hoops team, my May is consumed with activities. When I can finally take a breath, it will be time for VBS. I love being a part of Vacation Bible School; the only problem that I have with it is that it seems to be over as soon as we start. I am so thankful for the team of volunteers that work so hard behind the scenes to make it all happen. There is so much preparation that takes place for us to be able to introduce the Gospel to as many children as we can. They do all the work, and I get to show up and play with all the kids. Please pray for our VBS. Also, you can help by purchasing items from the VBS tree that is growing in the foyer. Finally, you can volunteer if you would like to participate and help with the children.
After VBS, a very important committee begins working on selecting officers and teachers for the upcoming Sunday school year. The Nominating Committee is headed by Pat Browning, and she needs help this year. If you have ever wanted to be a part of choosing leadership for Pine Street Baptist Church, please let Pat know if you want to serve in this area. The committee usually meets on Sunday afternoons through the month of June.
Someone was telling me the other day that they got their garden put in. I thought about the fresh vegetables that they will enjoy when their garden matures. The Book of Hosea 10:12 says: "Sow for yourselves righteousness, reap the fruit of unfailing love, and break up your unplowed ground; for it is time to seek the Lord, until He comes and showers righteousness on you." Our gardens will only produce what is planted in them. The seed will only grow in fertile soil. If my heart is hard and bitter, it must be broken for the seed of righteousness to take root.
Love you, Mike
